own on the corner in the streetlamp light You’re a city girl who’s the worryin’ kind With your rosy cheeks and a florescent hue And another reason to think about you So then we’ll talk about this and we’ll talk about that as if we’d always been Lovers from a long time ago I was discoverin’ you an afternoon with a smile so big, like Carolina skies so blue And another reason to think about you Up on the roof all alone at night, I was a weathered soul with a country mind Then you strummed my chord and hummed my tune It’s just another reason to think about you So then we’ll talk about this and we’ll talk about that as if we’d always been Lovers from a long time ago I was discoverin’ you an afternoon with a smile so big, like Carolina skies so blue And another reason to think about you think about you think about you think about you Down on the corner in the street lamp light You’re a city girl who’s the worryin’ kind With your rosy cheeks and a florescent hue And another reason to think about you

So, I know I’ve felt like this before, I didn’t want it anymore, I didn’t wanna care Thoughts of my loaded emptiness, my antiquated tenderness that I don’t wanna share I might take it from you and your attitude, until the bitterest end of my nerves And that lyrical touch, doesn’t mean that much The sawdust of her melodies have all but blown away And that’s why you will find me on any given night, drinkin’ on the east end of town If growin’ old means learnin’ how to learn to love again Then I don’t wanna be that man, with a blessing and a curse It’s lovely to have met you but it hurts So, you’ve done this little dance before, you’re tired of the metaphore to say the least Thoughts, what are they even good for? The ones you know you’ve had before, the ones you can’t share no more. The sand and the sea by the coastline, the seagulls and the breakers ease my worry mind Though I may long for a sailor’s song, takin’ me far away from city streets You’ll still be sure to find me on any given night, drinkin’ on the east end of town If growin’ old means learning how to learn to love again Then I don’t wanna be that man, with a blessing and a curse It’s lovely to have met you but it hurts It’s lovely to have met you but it hurts

I’m that nighttime tear that brings the morning dew, in the quietest hour meant to be with you That lingering notion is dying to fade away, and it will in here until the break of the day Like a lightning’s descent in the setting of the sun, and a thunder’s lament in a war he should have won That lingering notion, is dying to fade away, and it will in here until the break of day So you think of everything that you’ve ever wanted in holding someone tight, considerin’ all of those moments that you spend together Ain’t it funny when you’re finding it easy in another’s arms at night, another night that longs til the break of the day, another night that furthers you away I’m a tyrant’s descent whose false hope drove him made, since I’ve gotten what I want though I can’t want what I have That fascination, it needs a place to stay, so it will, in here til the break of the day So you think of everything that you’ve ever wanted in holding someone tight Considering all of those moments that you spent together Ain’t it funny when you’re finding it easy in another’s arms at night, another night that longs til the break of the day, another night that furthers you away It should be such a natural feeling to be lovin’ you tonight Considerin’ all of those moments that we’ve spent together Ain’t it funny when you’re finding it easy in another’s arms at night, another night that longs for the break of the day, another night that furthers you away Another night that furthers you away

On my mind 04:13
Your bedroom was a shoebox when I met you, in some old tired room for rent downtown Two footprints on the wall one Sunday morning, when we couldn’t get our feet upon the ground Then by chance we made it to the kitchen, the kettle on the stove by half past twelve The whistle might as well have been a freight train, of emptiness and sorrow leavin’ town And it doesn’t really matter, that’s for sure, ‘cause it’s gone by now and I know that there’ll be More than a poet’s reason for losin’ a tired rhyme, mistaking it for something more divine Then you who always knows what’s on my mind The song played on the stereo reminds us, the moment first that we danced cheek to cheek In some old lonely dancing room in Chelsea, with people thinkin’ they’ve got this world beat On Sunday nights when this old town gets lonely, we’ve still got wine and pizza down the street We might as well just hold each other gently, then deal with everything that’s underneath I wish it didn’t feel like the devil’s due every time that you leave after passin’ through ‘Cause by now you should have noticed that I’m takin’ you in stride and wondering if there’s something more divine than you who always knows what’s on my mind

On that final night that her eyes were silent and her head upon my knee Like before and after were softer gestures were things still enclosing me Then she left and when I kissed her goodnight, I knew what the future would bring In takin’ time as slowly as a person often needs Oh Josie she’s not the last one, for sure she’s not the first girl in my world with those questions at hand, the one’s that sometimes make us try a little harder She was that kind of girl that I never expected to wanna come around here She was lookin’ for remedies in melodies of all those worries and fears By taking time, going slowly, as slowly as one needs In entertainin’ the notion that she’d find it all in me Oh Josie she’s not the last one, for sure she’s not the first girl in my world with those questions at hand, the one’s that sometimes make us try a little harder Now some years have gone and so have all the pipedreams of the last chance And I finally know and she knows it also that life is not some Tango dance By taking time and goin’ slowly, as slowly as one needs So fragile are the softer notions of fairy tales that we all breath Oh Josie she’s not the last one, for sure she’s not the first girl in my world with those questions at hand, the one’s that sometimes make us try a little harder Josie she’s not the last one, for sure she’s not the first

You might have been scared, maybe not from those moments you were kissin’ me Well that’s the way that it ought to be for any lonesome heart You might have been wise, maybe not, but does wisdom have to do with it It doesn’t cure any part of bein, bein’ a lonesome heart The stars may not have been in your eyes that night, but sometimes stars are hard to see And sunken cheekbones in the candlelight ain’t a message from some weary soul to make me understand that sometimes a woman just does all she can You might’ve been tired or maybe not, from those moments that were keepin’ you From feelin’ things whether false or true like any lonesome heart The stars may not have been in your eyes that night, but sometimes stars are hard to see And sunken cheekbones in the candlelight ain’t a message from some weary soul to make me understand that sometimes a woman just does all she can
